Sell Your Company in 150 Days – Part 10: Transaction Closing & Funding

Closing day should be uneventful and almost anticlimactic — and that's music to our ears. The final stage of selling your company and owning your future.

Stage 10: Transaction Closing and Funding

ECP Ventures offers a disciplined, diligent, structured 10 Stage 150 Day sales transaction process for business owners to sell their businesses with sell side M&A representation.

Our clients always say that closing day was uneventful and almost anticlimactic. That is pure music to our ears. Our overriding objective is to make a stressful process not stressful.

A Simple Closing Day

On closing day all that should happen is the previously signed documents are released and the buyer issues consent to release the funds per the preestablished funds flow statement. Funds transfers are confirmed and final document copies are provided to all applicable recipients.

That's it. Then the joy and satisfaction set in for all parties involved. Everyone has a sense of accomplishment and appropriateness.

Sell Your Company and Own Your Future

We have a saying "sell your company and own your future". Many of our clients, especially longtime legacy owners, had built their own business jail and locked themselves in. Now they are liberated to move on to a very enjoyable next stage of their life.

However, not before a closing celebration. Business brokers collect tombstones (plaques indicating deal name and date) but we collect memories. It is so much fun to watch our sellers overflow with sheer joy. This is typically the one and only day where millions of dollars come into their lives and that is an overwhelming feeling. The next euphoric realization is that the thousands of emails and calls and late nights and weekends just went away too.

Why We Do What We Do

There is a euphoric rush for us too since we worked so hard to achieve our clients' goals. There was even a moment of joy for me at one of our closings. This moment brought me more joy than I got out of all 25 years of Corporate America put together.

We were sitting around the dinner table when one of our delightful sellers asked me "Cliff, what do you think I am going to do with the first 85,000?". I smiled and thought the usual. I responded with "I do not know... a Mercedes... a power boat... what are you going to get?"

She got a very serious look on her face and said "no". "My sister cannot get pregnant and now I can afford to give her 85,000 for medical procedures in hopes that she can get pregnant".

I literally did a fist pump under the table out of complete fulfillment for helping her get the money to do that. That was the single best moment of my entire career.

You just never know when you are going to change someone's life for the better.

We are a 100% successful efforts firm so all services described above are performed with zero cost to our clients until closing day.
